Starters Announced for Week 1 Game at Illinois Empty Starters Announced for Week 1 Game at Illinois

Post  Admin Tue Feb 10, 2009 7:11 pm

This is how we will be heading out against Illinois:

QB: Andy Schmitt (JR) and Jason Williams (rFR): We will be employing a 2 QB system for the foreseeable future, as Andy was the starter last year and we need his experience, but Jason brings a little more speed to the table.
HB: Terrence Blevins (SR): Terrence will get a chance to excel, as we hope to be a pound it out offensive team this year and he is the strongest of our backs.
FB: Maurice Goodrum (SO): I think this kid may shock you. He brings a lot of ability as a runner, receiver and blocker and he will definitely be a big part of our gameplans this season.
WR: Tyler Jones (SR) and Jacory Stone (JR): Tyler is a bigger (6-2, 218), physical WR that we will ask to make some difficult catches in traffic. Jacory shows some exceptional ability with the ball after the catch and we will look to get him the ball in space.
TE: John Bonner (SR): John will be very useful as both a WR and blocker.
    LT: T.J. Lang (SR)
    LG: Andy Fretz (JR)
    C: Derek Gotham (rFR)
    RG: Ross Petersen (JR)
    RT: Dan DeMaster (SO)
We are deeper on the offensive line then I had anticipated and our leader is our senior captain Lang. They are built primarily to run block, but should be adequate as a group in passing situations.
LE: Korey Jackson (SR): Korey doesn't have the size (5-11, 233) as a typical end, but he is perfectly built to play our style of play.
RE: Javon Reese (rFR): Javon is another smaller guy (6-3, 226) for the end position, but he is the fastest of all our ends and we are counting on him to make plays.
DT: Josh Hunt (SR) and Brad Ohrman (rFR): Josh is our best player on the line and he will need to make his presence felt this year for us to be effective. Brad is the fastest of our tackles and shows some good potential down the line as well.
OLB: Andre Hatchett (JR), Lorenzo Seaberry (JR): Both of these guys can run and tackle and can play in space.
MLB: Daniel Holtzclaw (SR): The heart and soul of our defense. He cannot miss tackles and must be healthy for every game this year for us to be successful.
CB: Lyle Garrison (SR) and Derrick Hunter (JR): Two solid cover corners who will be asked to play both man and zone coverage this season.
FS: Chris May (JR): More of a tweener, he shows the open field tackling ability that we desire.
SS: Jacob Wyatt (SR): We will be couting on Jacob to do a little bit of everything.
K: Zach Johnson (JR): The X factor, he will win us some games we wouldn't normally win with his leg.
P: Patrick Treppa (SO): We don't count on utilizing him too much this season.
